April 10, 1956 - Evening walks

 Evening walks

All this month, there have been no evening walks.  This might be because I'm living in the city.  I had just eaten and was feeling a bit stuffed so I went outside to walk around with John.  We walked down the road, talked and laughed all the way to the intersection by the church Deng Jing Lan school.. There, we turned and went up the hill .   This is a relatively quiet hill because there is a pond.  Some other pedestrians appeared outside the wooden house nearby.  We talked about the life of a Buddhist monk, life in the Catholic Church and the life we live now.  Thinking about it again, it was kind of funny.

When I returned, I walked to the chapel and saw a refugee who had worked there in the past.  He didn't work there for long.  He usually asked people on the street for money.. Today, he did something inappropriate.  He asked me for money.  I know his methods and there are ways to deal with it.  I spoke to him until he was willing to walk away.  Such people are everywhere in Hong Kong, therefore the means to deal with them must be available at any time.
